Secure communication in everyday work and in a crisis
Skytale secures messages and organisations. The organisation verifies its members, no data is stored outside Norway, and the channel is in use before a crisis, independently of its own IT infrastructure.
Supports your organisation's compliance with the Norwegian Security Act
Follows NSM's cryptographic recommendations and guidance
Available as SaaS or on-prem
The tools most organisations use are practical, but many are supplied by companies subject to foreign law. US suppliers, for example, may be required to disclose data under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702, even when it is stored in Europe. This creates two risks rarely covered in an emergency plan. Authorities in another country may gain access without the organisation knowing. And access to the service may be cut off by decisions made outside Norway.
Skytale has only Norwegian investors and is developed, operated and owned in Norway. No data is stored outside Norway, and data is processed under Norwegian law.
Security
Do you know the person behind the phone number?
Content is end-to-end encrypted.
No one gains access without first being verified by the organisation itself.
Administrator-controlled user access.
No self-registration.
Most security breaches do not break encryption. They exploit identity through impersonation, insider threats and unauthorised access. When anyone can register with a phone number, encryption tells you nothing about who is in the group. In Skytale, the organisation creates users and removes access when a person leaves.
Preparedness
Which channel do you use when your usual systems are down?
Independent of your own IT infrastructure.
A secure channel for crisis management.
Available for iOS, Android, PC and Mac, synchronised in real time.

Most organisations have an emergency plan. Fewer have a channel already in use when something happens. A channel nobody has logged into before a crisis is a channel nobody uses during one. In Skytale, crisis communication channels and groups can be set up in advance with the right people, ready for the day a crisis occurs.
Skytale is administered by your organisation and works independently of your other IT systems. When email, directory services and internal systems are down, you still have a secure channel for crisis communication and information sharing on mobile and desktop. In a crisis, you must expect that standard systems may be out of action in one way or another.
It is the channel for information that needs to remain under Norwegian control, and the one that stands when the rest goes down.
Norway's total defence
The channel between authorities and business in peace, crisis and war
The Norwegian Business and Industry Security Council (NSR) has advised Norwegian businesses on security since 1977. NSR is a not-for-profit association. Through its founding organisations NHO, Virke, Finance Norway, Spekter, the Norwegian Shipowners' Association and DNK, and its members, it represents the breadth of Norwegian business. In August 2025, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries designated NSR as the sectoral response environment (SRM) for business.
The evaluation following extreme weather event Hans, led by DSB, highlighted the role of business in emergency preparedness. Business therefore established a joint point of contact, the Business Emergency Preparedness and Security Centre (NBSS). Through VARDE, the authorities, NSR and Norwegian businesses share alerts and information in peace, crisis and war. Skytale was chosen as VARDE's shared communication system.
Information flows from the authorities through NBSS to member organisations, in permanent channels for important information, specialist areas and regions. During specific incidents, dedicated channels are created for affected organisations. In 2026, all of NSR's approximately 380 member organisations will be offered participation in VARDE.
Skytale has been used for coordination during Arendalsuka, ONS and the King's funeral. During Arendalsuka in August 2026, around 100 key people from the police, organisers and business shared messages, assessments and images in one channel throughout the event. The emergency preparedness professionals did the work. Skytale was the channel they used.
