Why the Signal incident shows the need for secure business messaging solutions such as Skytale
The recent data breach involving Signal, a popular encrypted messaging app used by some members of the US administration, has highlighted a serious security weakness. Although Signal offers end-to-end encryption, the platform remains vulnerable to operational errors. In this case, the compromise was likely caused by weak user verification, human error under time pressure and breaches of communication procedures, allowing an unauthorised person into a sensitive group.
At Skytale, we have chosen a different approach. Our platform is built on Zero Trust Architecture and designed from the ground up for secure, policy-based communication in high-risk environments such as defence and the public and private sectors.
Key security aspects of Skytale that make a difference:
User verification: Signal lets users register themselves with a phone number as their only identifier. Skytale uses organisation-managed identities, allowing the company to control who gets access and how users are verified.
Full organisational control: Signal does not offer administrative management. Skytale provides full control, including access and group management.
Control of the supply chain and infrastructure: Signal is subject to US law and does not disclose its entire service or infrastructure supply chain. Skytale is subject to Norwegian law, controls its supply chain and infrastructure, and uses Norwegian suppliers wherever possible.
These features are essential where security, discretion and control are critical.
If you work in a sector where communication security matters, Skytale offers a robust, thoroughly tested alternative to consumer apps.
