Behind the encrypted service Skytale are people with security experience and a track record of supplying software to the police and armed forces. The company has now attracted interest in Kongsberg.

Original quotation in Norwegian
  • Du vet aldri hvem som følger med.

The geopolitical climate has shown how vulnerable Norwegian businesses and public infrastructure can be. A parked car of the ‘wrong’ brand outside your building may be enough. Communication that is not entirely in Norwegian hands could, in the most extreme case, pose a national security risk.

Norwegians’ move to encrypted messaging services such as Signal and Telegram, and awareness of what services such as WhatsApp and TikTok can detect about our behaviour, have set the agenda in Norwegian media.

This autumn, Telenor also entered an innovation partnership with Skytale.

Through its pre-seed fund supporting deep-tech start-ups, Kongsberg Innovation has invested NOK 2 million in the Norwegian company, which plans to launch Skytale for commercial use in early 2024.

Encrypted communication for professionals

  • Hybrid encryption ensures full confidentiality
  • Wholly owned by a Norwegian company, developed and operated in Norway
  • Security-cleared under Norwegian law
  • Key management without storage elsewhere
  • Follows recommendations from NSM

Send information, documents, images, agreements, calls, chats and voice securely within your business or between partners.

The service will be offered to businesses as a monthly or annual subscription, fully installed.

Skytale will not be available in commercial app stores, but supplied directly to customers. Skytale aims to become the preferred Nordic option for handling and securely sharing information. The service is adapted for businesses, organisations and public bodies.

Commercial launch is planned for autumn 2024.
