Apple is approved for NATO Restricted. What about communication?

The approval covers the device. What happens to content after it leaves the phone is a separate question.

NATO has approved iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 for information up to NATO Restricted, without requiring additional software. This is real progress for device security.

The approval covers the device and its built-in services. It does not address everything that runs on it.

For Norwegian organisations, two questions remain. One is which apps the organisation actually uses for sensitive matters and who has assessed them. The other is which jurisdiction the content falls under once it has left the device.

Device security and communication security are two different layers. An approved device tells you something about how safely content is held locally. It says nothing about who administers users, where data is stored or who can request access.

Skytale addresses the second layer. Users are created by the organisation, access is controlled by the organisation, content is end-to-end encrypted and no data is stored outside Norway.
